Weekly antibiotic switch could slash UTIs in bladder disorder patients

NCT ID NCT01388413

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether taking a single dose of one antibiotic one week, and a different antibiotic the next week, could prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in people with a neurogenic bladder (a bladder that doesn't work normally due to nerve damage). The 45 participants had frequent UTIs and used a catheter. The goal was to see if this weekly cycling approach could reduce the number of infections and hospital stays compared to standard care.
