Local numbing may match standard arm block for carpal tunnel surgery

NCT ID NCT06040840

First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested if a simpler numbing method called WALANT (injecting numbing medicine directly into the wrist) works as well as a standard arm block for carpal tunnel release surgery. 130 adults having endoscopic carpal tunnel release took part. The main goal was to see if WALANT could avoid the need for extra pain medicine or sedation during surgery, while also looking at surgery time and recovery speed.
