Smartphone app sends everyday heroes to fight opioid overdoses

NCT ID NCT07079241

Summary

This study is testing a new system to see if trained volunteers can save lives from opioid overdoses. When someone calls emergency services for a suspected overdose, a smartphone app will alert nearby volunteers who carry naloxone, an overdose-reversing drug. The goal is to see if these volunteers can safely reach the person and give naloxone before an ambulance arrives.
