Scientists film throat vibrations to decode new voices after cancer

NCT ID NCT05561920

Summary

This study aimed to better understand how people speak after their voice box (larynx) is surgically removed to treat advanced cancer. Researchers filmed the throat tissue vibrations of 55 patients using high-speed video and analyzed their substitute voices. The goal was to link what they saw in the videos with the sound of the new voice, which could help improve future speech therapy and rehabilitation.
