Experimental drug for heparin-triggered blood disorder tested, but study stopped early
NCT ID NCT05785819
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested a new drug called VLX-1005 for a rare condition where the blood thinner heparin causes low platelet counts and dangerous blood clots. About 24 adults with suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopenia were randomly assigned to receive either VLX-1005 or a placebo, on top of standard care. The goal was to see if the drug helped platelet levels recover faster and prevented complications like strokes or clots. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
