Can a vitamin boost help fight infection in the tiniest patients?
NCT ID NCT07245277
Summary
This study tested whether giving vitamin D alongside standard antibiotics helps control sepsis (a serious blood infection) in premature babies. Researchers compared three groups: one receiving only antibiotics, and two receiving antibiotics plus different daily doses of vitamin D (400 IU or 800 IU) for one week. They measured changes in the babies' infection severity scores and a key blood marker (C-reactive protein) to see if the vitamin made a difference.
