First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether taking vitamin D supplements can improve healing and reduce problems like infection or poor wound healing after foot fusion surgery. About 90 adults having ankle or big toe fusion will take vitamin D or standard care. Researchers will track complications for 6 months after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vitamin D3
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that vitamin D supplements help people recover better after foot fusion surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small study. Vitamin D may not speed healing or prevent complications, and results may not apply to everyone.
