Can VR replace the classic chair stand test?
NCT ID NCT07362368
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will check if a virtual reality (VR) version of the Five-Repetition Sit-to-Stand test is as valid and reliable as the traditional version. Sixty healthy young adults will perform both tests, and the VR version will be repeated a week later to see if results are consistent. The goal is to see if VR can offer a more standardized and objective way to measure lower body strength and mobility.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Immersive virtual reality application for the Meta Quest 3 platform
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more standardized and objective way to assess lower body strength and mobility using virtual reality.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in healthy young adults only, so results may not apply to older people or those with medical conditions. The VR test may not match the accuracy of the traditional test.
