5 minutes of StarFox may sharpen surgeons' scoping skills

NCT ID NCT07649447

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether a 5-minute video game session (StarFox Zero on Wii-U) can improve endoscopy performance in a simulated setting. Fifteen gastroenterology or surgical clinicians will either rest or play the game before a practice endoscopy on a model. The goal is to see if a brief, fun warm-up boosts tool handling and scope control.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Video game warm-up (StarFox Zero on Wii-U)

What this could lead to

If effective, a short video game session could become a simple, low-cost way to sharpen procedural skills before real endoscopies.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study (15 people) using a simulated model, so results may not apply to real procedures or to all clinicians.
