New flap technique may improve jaw bone grafting outcomes
NCT ID NCT07664098
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two surgical flap methods for bone grafting in the front upper jaw. Twenty-four adults with horizontal bone loss will receive either a conventional flap or a vestibular shifted flap. The goal is to see which technique leads to more bone gain and better gum tissue quality after six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
vestibular shifted flap procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a better surgical technique for rebuilding bone in the upper jaw, potentially improving outcomes for dental implants.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. As with any surgery, there are risks of infection, bleeding, or graft failure.
