First seen Nov 12, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests a device called VentFree that uses mild electrical pulses to strengthen breathing muscles in critically ill patients on ventilators. The goal is to see if it helps them wean off the machine sooner and cough better. About 272 adults who have been on a ventilator for 1 to 4 days will take part, and half will receive a sham (fake) treatment for comparison.
