Silent suffering: new tool aims to 'Hear' breathing distress in ICU patients who Can't speak

NCT ID NCT07383389

Summary

This study aims to validate a Turkish version of a tool that helps nurses and doctors assess breathing distress in critically ill patients who cannot communicate, such as those on ventilators or heavily sedated. Researchers will test the tool by comparing its scores against readings from a non-invasive carbon dioxide monitor, which measures how well a patient is breathing. The goal is to provide a reliable way to spot and manage this distressing symptom in patients who cannot tell you they are struggling to breathe.
