Nerve zaps + rehab: new hope for hand movement after spinal injury?
NCT ID NCT05601661
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether pairing vagus nerve stimulation (a mild electrical pulse to a nerve in the neck) with standard rehabilitation is safe and doable for people with cervical spinal cord injury. Six participants with incomplete injuries (at least one year post-injury) received the implant and therapy. The main goals were to check for side effects and see if people could complete the sessions, with a secondary look at whether hand and arm function improved.
