Scientists zap ears to map stroke brain recovery
NCT ID NCT07282106
Summary
This study investigated whether gentle electrical stimulation of the ear (targeting the vagus nerve) changes how different brain areas communicate with each other at rest. Researchers used a special light-based brain scanner (fNIRS) to measure these connections in 84 people, including chronic stroke survivors and healthy volunteers. They compared real stimulation to a fake (sham) stimulation to see if the effects were specific.
