Invisible light shields: can UV ceiling fixtures protect nursing home residents from deadly infections?

Summary
This study is testing if special ultraviolet (UV) lights installed near the ceiling in nursing home common areas can reduce severe respiratory infections like pneumonia and COVID-19. It will involve about 1,200 elderly residents across 12 nursing homes in France. The lights will be secretly turned on or off in different homes during different seasons to see if active lights lead to fewer infections requiring oxygen, hospitalization, or causing death.
