Pee test could end painful scope for bladder cancer checks
NCT ID NCT06310759
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether a simple urine test that looks for tumor DNA can replace the standard invasive cystoscopy (a camera inserted into the bladder) for diagnosing bladder cancer. Researchers will enroll 3,000 people who have blood in their urine and are scheduled for a cystoscopy. If the urine test proves accurate enough, it could spare many patients from an uncomfortable procedure and reduce healthcare costs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
urine tumor DNA (utDNA) test
What this could lead to
If successful, this could replace many invasive cystoscopies with a simple urine test, making diagnosis easier and cheaper for patients with blood in urine.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The urine test may not be accurate enough to replace cystoscopy, and results may not apply to all patients.
