Pee power: urine cells could fix corneas without donor transplants
NCT ID NCT07435142
First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This early study tests whether a patient's own urine-derived cells can be safely used to treat corneal endothelial cell dysfunction, a condition that causes swelling, pain, and vision loss. The approach aims to avoid the need for donor corneas and reduce reliance on lifelong anti-rejection drugs. Only 3 adults with severe corneal damage will be enrolled to see if the cells improve cell density and vision over 6 months.
