Scientists seek clues to devastating infant gut disease

NCT ID NCT06681129

Summary

This study aims to better understand how the intestines develop in newborns and infants, and what goes wrong in serious diseases like necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Researchers will collect small tissue, blood, and stool samples from infants up to 2 years old who are already having intestinal surgery or a scope procedure. The goal is to learn more about gut cells, the immune system, and helpful bacteria to guide future research and treatments.
