Belly button therapy for IBS? scientists probe gut microbes for answers

NCT ID NCT07308262

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at how a traditional therapy called umbilical moxibustion (applying heat to the belly button) might help people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Researchers will compare gut bacteria and small molecules in 60 adults who receive the therapy versus those who do not. The goal is to understand the biological changes behind any symptom relief, not to test a cure.
