Stitch choice study aims to improve common hernia surgery

NCT ID NCT07156188

Summary

This study aims to find out if using absorbable stitches (which dissolve over time) is as good as permanent stitches for repairing small umbilical hernias. It will involve over 900 adults having elective surgery for hernias 2 cm or smaller. The main goal is to see if the hernia is less likely to come back and if there are fewer wound problems with one type of stitch over the other.
