Ultrasound may ditch x-rays for feeding tube checks in ICUs

NCT ID NCT07376083

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study will test if a bedside ultrasound can accurately confirm that a feeding tube is in the right place in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, compared to the standard chest X-ray. Researchers will enroll 170 adults who need a feeding tube and measure how well ultrasound performs. If successful, this could mean faster, radiation-free checks for critically ill patients.
