Ultrasound aims to make epidurals safer and more accurate

NCT ID NCT02271100

Summary

This study tested whether using an ultrasound machine could help doctors place epidural catheters more accurately and safely than the traditional method of feeling for landmarks with their fingers. Researchers compared the two techniques in 110 women in labor. The goal was to see if ultrasound could reduce the risk of placing the catheter too high on the spine.
