Ultrasound may offer safer way to confirm epidural placement

NCT ID NCT06556836

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether ultrasound can accurately locate epidural catheters in 66 adults undergoing open abdominal surgery, comparing it to the standard X-ray method (epidurography). Participants received an epidural for pain control, and both techniques were used to check catheter position. The goal was to see if ultrasound could serve as a reliable, less invasive alternative in routine surgical settings.
