Simple eye scan could speed diagnosis of dangerous blood vessel disease

NCT ID NCT07001059

Summary

This study is testing whether measuring the sheath around the optic nerve using a simple, non-invasive ultrasound can help doctors diagnose giant cell arteritis (GCA) more quickly and accurately. GCA is a serious inflammatory condition of blood vessels that mainly affects older adults and can lead to sudden vision loss if not treated promptly. Researchers will enroll 190 patients suspected of having GCA to see if this ultrasound measurement is a reliable diagnostic tool compared to current, more complex methods.
