Ultrasound reveals which airway device best protects the lungs during surgery
NCT ID NCT07642115
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study uses ultrasound imaging to compare the sealing quality of three different supraglottic airway devices (ProSeal LMA, i-gel, and i-gel Plus) in adults undergoing elective surgery. Researchers will measure how well each device blocks the throat and check for signs of stomach fluid leakage using a pH test. The goal is to find which device provides the best protection against regurgitation and lung injury during general anesthesia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
supraglottic airway devices (ProSeal LMA, i-gel, i-gel Plus)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help anesthesiologists choose the safest airway device for patients, reducing the risk of regurgitation and lung injury during surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, observational study that measures physical and chemical markers, not patient outcomes. The findings may not directly change clinical practice or apply to all patients.
