Doctors test ultrasound as a crystal ball for breathing machine removal

NCT ID NCT06321848

Summary

This study aims to see if ultrasound scans of the heart, lungs, and diaphragm can help doctors better predict when a patient in the surgical intensive care unit (ICU) is ready to breathe on their own after using a ventilator. Researchers will scan 190 adult patients and compare the results between those who successfully stop using the ventilator and those who fail. The goal is to create a more accurate prediction tool to guide safer decisions about removing the breathing tube.
