Quick ultrasound may predict tough epidurals in labor
NCT ID NCT07056166
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a quick ultrasound scan of the lower back can help doctors predict if placing an epidural during labor will be difficult. About 563 pregnant women who request an epidural for pain relief will get the scan before the procedure. Researchers will compare the ultrasound measurements with how easy or hard the epidural placement actually is. The goal is to find simple markers that could help doctors prepare better, but this is an observation-only study with no experimental treatment.
