Belly muscle scan may predict painkiller needs in elderly surgery patients
NCT ID NCT07545824
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026
Summary
This study will check if measuring belly muscle thickness with ultrasound before surgery can help predict how much pain medication older adults (65+) will need after abdominal surgery. Researchers will measure muscle thickness and record pain scores and opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery. The goal is to find simple ways to personalize pain management for each patient.
