Ultrasound-Guided wrist access may reduce procedure switches in heart angiography
NCT ID NCT07617259
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two methods of accessing the radial artery in the wrist for coronary angiography: the standard approach versus an ultrasound-guided distal approach. Researchers will enroll 1,400 patients who need this heart procedure to see if ultrasound guidance reduces the need to switch to a different access site. The goal is to improve efficiency and possibly lower complications like artery spasm or blockage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that ultrasound-guided distal wrist access is more reliable, reducing procedure delays and complications.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage procedural comparison, not a test of a new drug or therapy. The benefit may be small or not apply to all patients.
