Ultrasound could stop dangerous stomach air during surgery for obese patients

NCT ID NCT07480031

Summary

This study aims to prevent a dangerous complication called gastric insufflation, where air enters the stomach during anesthesia, in patients with severe obesity. Researchers will use an ultrasound machine to watch the stomach in real-time and adjust the air pressure from the breathing mask to find the safest level. The goal is to keep patients breathing well during surgery while stopping air from getting into their stomach, which can cause serious lung problems.
