Doctors test ultrasound to prevent dangerous tracheostomy complications

NCT ID NCT01502657

Summary

This study tested whether using ultrasound guidance during tracheostomy procedures could make them safer. Researchers worked with 40 adult ICU patients who needed a tracheostomy to help them breathe. They used ultrasound to see neck structures in real-time, aiming to avoid accidentally puncturing blood vessels or the thyroid gland during the procedure.
