New needle treatment eases shoulder pain after surgery?
NCT ID NCT06331871
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding ultrasound-guided percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) to standard physiotherapy helps people with shoulder pain after surgery. 70 patients were split into two groups: one got only physiotherapy, the other got physiotherapy plus one PENS session. Researchers measured pain and disability over 12 weeks. The goal was to see if PENS offers extra relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) plus physiotherapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-drug option to reduce pain and improve mobility after shoulder surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 70 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The added benefit of PENS over physiotherapy alone may be small.
