New needle technique may speed up central line placement
NCT ID NCT07547397
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will test two ultrasound-guided methods for inserting a central line into the jugular vein in the neck. One method uses a syringe to confirm the needle is in the vein, while the other skips that step by placing the guide wire directly through the needle. Researchers will compare how long each method takes, how many attempts are needed, and how often complications occur. The study plans to enroll 90 adults aged 18-85 who need a central line during surgery.
