Which arm block works best for obese patients? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07209995
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques—retroclavicular infraclavicular block and axillary block—for pain control in 90 obese patients (BMI 30-40) having elbow or forearm surgery. Researchers will measure how long pain relief lasts, how much extra pain medicine is needed, and pain scores. The goal is to find which block provides better pain control for this specific group of patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
retroclavicular infraclavicular brachial plexus block or axillary block (local anesthetic injection)
What this could lead to
If this study shows one block is better, it could help doctors choose the best pain control method for obese patients having elbow surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 90 participants. The results may not apply to all patients or surgeries, and individual responses to the blocks can vary.
