New ultrasound procedure targets deadly lung clots, aims to reduce bleeding risk

NCT ID NCT07452991

Summary

This study is testing a specialized procedure for people with serious, but not immediately life-threatening, lung blood clots (pulmonary embolism). Doctors use a catheter (thin tube) guided by ultrasound to deliver clot-dissolving medicine directly to the clot in the lung. The goal is to see if this targeted approach is safe and effective, especially in reducing the risk of major bleeding that can happen with standard clot-busting drugs given through a vein.
