New bone scanner aims to predict fractures better than X-Rays

NCT ID NCT05424536

Summary

This study tested a new, portable ultrasound device to see if it can measure bone thickness and porosity to better identify people at risk for fractures from osteoporosis. Researchers compared the device's readings to the current standard X-ray scan (DXA) in 50 people over 50, including some who had recently broken a hip. The goal is to develop a cheaper, radiation-free tool that could improve fracture risk prediction.
