First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This early study tests a new type of stem cell transplant called 'ultra-transplantation' for children aged 7-12 with severe thalassemia. Unlike standard transplants, this method does not require chemotherapy before the procedure and avoids the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). The goal is to cure the disease by safely implanting donor cells. Only 5 participants will be enrolled to see if the approach works.
