Cord stem cells could ease rare muscle disease

NCT ID NCT07086521

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether stem cells from donated umbilical cords are safe and can help reduce symptoms of Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), a genetic condition that causes muscle weakness. Sixteen adults with FSHD will receive two doses of the stem cells and two doses of a placebo (a saltwater solution) through an IV, in a random order. The main goals are to check for side effects and see if the treatment improves muscle function.
