New combo therapy could shorten hospital stays for severe colitis patients

NCT ID NCT07258771

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study compares two treatments for people with a severe flare-up of ulcerative colitis, a condition causing intense diarrhea and bleeding. One group gets standard steroids alone, while the other gets steroids plus upadacitinib (Rinvoq), a pill that calms the immune system. The goal is to see if the combo works faster to control symptoms and avoid surgery or hospital readmission. About 110 adults will take part, and the results may help doctors choose the best treatment sequence.
