Could a common bile acid pill speed up liver recovery from hepatitis?

NCT ID NCT07525401

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether a medicine called ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can help lower bilirubin levels in people with acute viral hepatitis (types A or E). Bilirubin is a waste product that builds up when the liver is inflamed, causing yellowing of the skin and eyes. The trial will compare 88 adults who get UDCA plus standard care against those who get standard care alone, measuring bilirubin changes after 7 days. If effective, UDCA could become a routine treatment for this condition.
