Race against drug resistance: new typhoid treatment tested across south asia

NCT ID NCT04349826

Summary

This study tested whether using two antibiotics together works better than using just one antibiotic to treat typhoid fever in South Asia. Researchers enrolled 2,150 patients across Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan who had uncomplicated typhoid fever. They compared treatment with azithromycin alone versus azithromycin plus cefixime to see which approach helped patients recover faster and prevented treatment failure.
