First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study compared a combination of two antibiotics (azithromycin and cefixime) against azithromycin alone for treating uncomplicated typhoid fever in over 2,000 patients in South Asia. The goal was to see if the combo reduces treatment failure and fights drug-resistant strains. Participants took either the combo or a single drug plus a placebo for a week, with follow-ups up to three months.
