New study aims to speed up testicular torsion diagnosis in emergency rooms

NCT ID NCT07499024

First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple scoring tool called TWIST can help doctors safely rule out testicular torsion in adult men (ages 18-40) who come to the emergency room with scrotal pain. The tool was previously used in children, and researchers want to see if it works for adults too. If successful, it could reduce the need for unnecessary ultrasound scans and speed up treatment for those who need it.
