New biopsy method may predict colorectal cancer spread

NCT ID NCT03336658

First seen May 08, 2026 ยท Last updated May 08, 2026

Summary

This study examined tissue samples from 150 colorectal cancer patients to see if the number of tumor buds (tiny clusters of cancer cells) could predict whether the cancer had spread to lymph nodes or other organs. Researchers used a special stain to count buds in the densest area of each biopsy. The goal was to improve how doctors estimate cancer stage and patient outcomes without needing surgery.
