New mouthpiece aims to make safer breathing during surgery

NCT ID NCT07204223

Summary

This study compares two small devices placed in the mouth to help patients breathe right after they are put to sleep for surgery. It focuses on patients who are expected to be harder to ventilate with a standard mask, such as those who are older, have a beard, are missing teeth, or are obese. Researchers want to see if a newer device called the Tulip airway works better than the commonly used Guedel airway at delivering adequate air to the lungs.
