New drug trial aims to slow debilitating genetic movement disorder

NCT ID NCT02960893

Summary

This study tested whether a drug called troriluzole could help control the symptoms of spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), a group of rare, inherited disorders that cause worsening problems with coordination and balance. For 8 weeks, 141 adults with SCA received either the drug or a placebo pill to see if it improved their movement scores. The goal was to find a treatment to manage this progressive condition, not to cure it.
