Breakthrough oil trial aims to protect kids from metabolic crises

Summary
This study is testing whether a special nutritional oil called triheptanoin can reduce serious health events like muscle breakdown, heart problems, and low blood sugar in children with a rare disorder where their bodies struggle to use fats for energy. About 69 children under 18 with a confirmed diagnosis will be randomly assigned to receive either triheptanoin or the standard medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil for several years to see which works better. The main goal is to see if triheptanoin leads to fewer and shorter hospital visits for these dangerous episodes.
