Brain fuel tested for rare childhood paralysis disorder

NCT ID NCT02408354

Summary

This small, completed study tested whether a special dietary oil called triheptanoin could help control the sudden, paralyzing attacks in people with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). Researchers gave the oil or a placebo to 10 French patients aged 15 and older to see if it reduced the number, severity, and duration of these neurological episodes. The goal was to see if providing an alternative energy source to the brain could help stabilize the condition.
