Could a simple drug slash repeat brain bleed surgeries?

NCT ID NCT07245264

First seen Nov 24, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding tranexamic acid (a drug that helps blood clots stay stable) to standard surgery can lower the chance of needing another surgery for a chronic subdural hematoma—a slow brain bleed common in older adults. About 274 adults scheduled for surgery will be randomly assigned to get the drug or surgery alone. The main goal is to see if fewer people in the drug group need repeat surgery within 90 days.
