Can a pulling machine help straighten Teens' spines?
NCT ID NCT07448688
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a gentle back-pulling machine (traction) to special exercises can improve spine curves and reduce pain in teens with mild scoliosis. About 40 adolescents with curves between 10 and 25 degrees will be randomly assigned to get either real traction plus exercise or sham traction plus exercise. The goal is to see if the combination works better than exercise alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Lumbar mechanical traction device (motorized traction therapy system) plus three-dimensional exercise therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a better non-surgical option for teens with mild scoliosis, potentially slowing curve progression and reducing pain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants. The added benefit of traction over exercise alone is uncertain, and results may not apply to all scoliosis patients.
